• Distribution
In Vietnam: Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Lang Son, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Nam, Gia Lai, Dak Lac, Buon Me Thuot and Reu Island. In the world: All around Asia.
• Habitat
This macaque species lives in a wide range of habitats. It inhabits light forest, tropical forest, pine forest, bamboo forest and mixed forest. It lives as well in mountainous areas as well in flat areas.
• Behaviour In the wild they eat ffruits, leaf-buds, tubers and insects. In the Hanoi Zoo they are fed the same food as the Stump-tailed Macaque which are fruits, sweet potatoes, rice and insects. The Rhesus Macaque lives in a big group, which can contain more than 100 individuals. This big group is divided in small sub-groups and are led by an adult male. This sub-group contains a couple of females with their babies and some young animals. This macaque is active during the day and lives mainly in the trees and it also can swim very well. The breeding season for this animal is from May to June and they reach their sexual maturity at the same age as all the macaque species which is at an age of two years. The gestation period is around 180 days. They breed very well in Hanoi Zoo.
