• Distribution
In Vietnam: Hue, Quang Nam, Kon Tum, Daclac, Buonmethuot, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Kien Gaing. In the World: India, China, Thailand, Lao, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia
• Habitat
This macaque species usually lives in the rainforest, but it also inhabits bamboo forest and mangrove swamp.
• Behaviour
The Crab-eating Macaque is active during the day. Like all macaques species this macaque is also living in big groups, which can contain more than 100 individuals. The group is divided in sub-groups. It is very uncommon to see a macaque living alone. In the wild, it mainly eats fruit, leaves, tubers and insects. In the Hanoi Zoo they are fed the same as all the macaque species, which are all kind of fruits, sweet potatoes, rice and insects. The breeding period of this species is from March to May and the females will give birth to a single baby. As all macaque species, the Crab-eating Macaque reaches its sexual maturity at an age of two years. The gestation period is 7 to 8 months. The averag lifetime is 15 to 20 years.
