PHEASANTS - Phasianidae Vietnamese Pheasant Lophura hatinhensis
• Distribution
This species only appears in Ky Anh - Ha Tinh which is in the center of Vietnam.
• Habitat
The Vietnamees Pheasant lives in mountainous areas on different slopes. They live in the forest as well in more open areas.
• Behaviour
This bird lives on the ground. Their nests are very difficult to find because they are hidden in brushes or they are all covered with leaves. In the wild this pheasant eats all kind of nuts, fruits, worms and other insects. In the Hanoi Zoo they are fed rice, peanuts, fruit and all kind of vegetables. The breeding season of this animal is in the spring and in the summer. They lay 4 to 6 eggs which can incubate for 18 to 26 days. The Vietnamese Pheasant is a very precious and exclusive species. In 1990 the Hanoi Zoo was the first to rear Vietnamese Pheasant and in 1993 it has it first success in breeding and raising some young chicks. With this succes Hanoi Zoo got the attention of the World Pheasant Association (W.P.A.). This association expanded a cooperative relation between the Hanoi Zoo and the W.P.A. to develop and to work together on the breeding and preserving the Vietnamese Pheasant.
